Safeguarding Adults Week 2025: Supporting People Who Hoard
17th – 21st November 2025
This Safeguarding Adults Week, we’re shining a light on one of the most misunderstood safeguarding issues — hoarding.
What is Hoarding?

Hoarding is a form of self-neglect that can pose serious risks to health, safety, and wellbeing. It affects people from all walks of life and often develops over many years, linked to trauma, anxiety, or loss. Yet, we know very little about how widespread it is in our city.
That’s why we’re asking for your help and launching a community survey to help us better understand the scale of hoarding in Doncaster. Your response will help shape the development of a specialist support service for people who hoard — and the families, neighbours, and professionals who want to help.
Hoarding is a safeguarding issue — not a lifestyle choice. People who hoard often experience distress and isolation. Compassionate, coordinated support can make a difference.
We need to understand the scale of the problem to provide the right help. Our community survey will give insight into how many people are struggling and where support is most needed.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If you’re worried about someone who might be hoarding or self-neglecting, you can help by raising your concern safely and sensitively.
