Volunteers Week 2nd-8th June 2025
You make the difference
Every day, our volunteers make a real difference to the lives of people in the Doncaster community who are facing mental health challenges. Whether it’s helping people to achieve meaningful goals, supporting a group session or fundraising with our team – their time and compassion can change lives.
And here’s the truth – volunteering doesn’t just help others; it helps you too!
Why volunteer?
- Support mental health – be part of someone’s recovery journey
- Feel good inside and out – volunteering can reduce stress, improve mood and even boost your physical health
- Join a supportive community – meet new people, build meaningful connections and be part of something bigger
- Learn & grow – gain skills, confidence & purpose, no matter your background or experience
A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers
To our current volunteers, thank you for everything you do. You give your time, your energy and your empathy – often without asking for anything in return. Because of you, we can support more people, offer more hope and build a stronger Doncaster community.
This week, we’re celebrating you –the listeners, the lifelines, who make a difference.
Real voices, real impact

"As I stepped into my role as a 1:1 Wellbeing Navigator, I was eager to gain direct experience in mentoring to better support and understand both our volunteers and clients. Mentoring offers a powerful, collaborative space where individuals are supported in achieving their personal goals—and being part of that journey is both inspiring and humbling. My time mentoring with Doncaster Mind has been invaluable. It’s not only strengthened my professional skill set, but also deepened my appreciation for the courage and growth I witness in others. It’s a genuine privilege to contribute to such meaningful, self-empowering progress." Shannon
"I've worked for Doncaster Mind as a Community Connector for 18 months and as a mentor for 7 months. I like making a difference in someone's life. I enjoy working with the mentee, helping them to set their goals, and coaching them. It is lovely to see the progression in them and to witness them gaining confidence and more control over their life and their feelings. Although I did a degree in Journalism, I quickly realised that all I wanted to do was help people. All of my previous job roles have involved helping people and providing support. I find it very rewarding. " Rachael
"When starting my placement at Doncaster Mind I was given the chance to become a mentor, this unique opportunity gave me a chance to step out of my comfort zone and develop my personal and professional skills all whilst gaining an understanding of how other people view the world. This new venture has already been so eye-opening and rewarding, it's very empowering to not only feel like I am helping others to make a difference, but seeing these people continue to work on themselves and achieve their full potential is such an inspiration." Rhyanna
"I’ve been mentoring for almost six months, and I really enjoy it. Seeing change in the people I’ve worked with is incredibly rewarding. As a mentor, I offer guidance and encouragement, sometimes sharing my own experiences which helps others realise they have the strength and potential to make meaningful changes in their lives. There are tools and prompts in place to keep the sessions on track, and the Mind team are always available and on hand when you need support. It’s great to be part of a community who really care." Katie
"For the past 18 months, I’ve had the privilege of being a volunteer mentor at Doncaster Mind, a journey that has been both deeply meaningful and transformative. Supporting someone as they work toward their personal goals is not just rewarding, it’s an honour. It’s about walking alongside them, offering encouragement, and helping them rediscover their own strength. When I first began mentoring, I didn’t have formal experience but I quickly learned that what truly matters is showing up with empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude. These qualities create a safe and supportive space where people can feel heard, valued, and empowered. I’m now qualified in Level 3 Counselling and currently continuing my training, expanding my ability to support others more deeply. Whether you’re navigating challenges or seeking personal growth, being mentored means you don’t have to go through it alone, there’s someone in your corner who genuinely cares. I highly recommend volunteering at Doncaster Mind." Keishia
