New Team Members!

Welcome to the Team, Sharon and Sam.

Sharon and Sam have recently joined Doncaster Mind and will work in the HIU team.

We caught up with them to have a chat and be a bit nosey about what they do at Doncaster Mind.

"What is a Day in the life of an HIU Community Coach?"

We asked what a HIU Community Coach does? Sam said, "We reach out to people who are using the A&E dept. for emotional & social support, taking time to get to know the person and explore what they might benefit from existing services within the community."

Sharon added, "We want to help people who feel they may use a service more than usual and help to identify what's best for the individual at that time."

Sam

Although Sharon and Sam are new to their roles, they were able to tell us what things they love about their jobs. Sam said, "I feel privileged to help empower some of Doncaster’s most vulnerable people. Lifting others up and holding their hand when they need it." Sharon agreed, telling us, "Helping clients to regain a hold of their life is the most rewarding thing."

The HIU Service is only available by referral for people who may be using the A&E Dept. for emotional support or to fill a social need they have.

We asked Sharon and Sam "What is the most challenging part of your role?"

Sam told us, "Often the most challenging part of the role making the first contact, lots of people will not answer a call from an unknown number." and Sharon agreed and said that, "Getting the trust from our clients that we genuinely want to help can be a challenge.

As Sharon and Sam are joining us in our work in Mental Health, we wanted to get an idea of how they keep themselves well - especially when supporting others.

Sharon told us that she likes to connect with others, "Spending time with my family and friends is how I wind down after any busy time." and Sam told us that to wind down she loves to spend time in nature.

We know that you'll all give them a warm welcome to the team and we're so pleased to get to work with our new colleagues!
